Abstract

A total of about 3,000 illustrations and plates are included! This is a design and illustration "picture book" that is the culmination of the activities of Eiji Mitooka, who revolutionized railway design. It is packed with design drawings of transportation such as buses and ships, perspective drawings of buildings such as stations, commercial facilities, and resort facilities, and illustrations for advertising and product design, with a focus on railway vehicles. Rather than creating a collection of works that neatly organizes the pictures, the pictures are lined up in a gallery-like style, with each one framed. The author took this approach because he wanted readers to realize how many pictures are drawn to design one vehicle. All of Mitooka's illustrations are for explanatory purposes, so there are no verbal explanations. Just look at the pictures and feel what they are like.
