Abstract
Do you think running away is a sign of weakness?
In fact, people who are good at escaping are often the most intelligent.
In The Art of Strategic Escape, psychiatrist Hiroshi Uenishi turns the conventional notion of “escape” on its head. Often seen as a symbol of failure or cowardice, escape is redefined here as one of the most powerful survival strategies in both life and work.
We live under constant stress, confronting endless deadlines, social pressures, and emotionally taxing relationships. While society often tells us to stand firm and endure, Uenishi asks: Is that truly the wisest path?
This book provides a scientific and psychological perspective on why strategic retreat—"running away"—can actually lead to better mental health, increased creativity, and long-term success. It explores how taking a step back in high-pressure situations can protect your well-being and allow you to return stronger and more focused.
Whether it’s an unrealistic deadline at work, the burden of responsibility, or a toxic environment, choosing to escape isn’t about giving up—it’s about choosing wisely. History is full of great leaders and thinkers who achieved remarkable success by knowing when to withdraw and regroup.
With a refreshing and empowering tone, Dr. Uenishi’s insights remind us that real courage often lies not in charging ahead, but in knowing when to step away. The Art of Strategic Escape will change the way you think about stress, resilience, and the power of walking away.
