Abstract

A proud and conceited chicken, proud of his singing, is constantly fighting with a beautiful and popular rose. One day, the rose is cut down. In the silent garden, the chicken learns of loss and sadness, and what do they see? This is the first original picture book by a leading illustrator. The retro, colorful illustrations are striking. It was selected as THE BRAW AMAZING BOOKSHELF at the Bologna Book Fair in April 2025.

Author’s Information

Originally from Niigata Prefecture, she currently resides in Tokyo. She graduated from Musashino Art University. As an illustrator, she is active mainly in advertising, books, educational materials, textbooks, travel guidebooks, and characters. Her illustration work includes the cover illustration for Shobunsha's "Kotorip." She was selected for the 2023 Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy. Her works include "Breakfast Around the World" and "Festivals and Feasts Around the World" (text by Alice B. McGinty/Shiobunsha). These works have also been published in English, French, and Korean.
