Abstract
Whether it's at work, a business partner, family, a fellow mom, or a neighbor... They do something unpleasant to you, it's bothering you, and you really want to fight back. But you can't break the relationship, and you end up thinking, "If I can just put up with it for now," here's an intellectual strategy to save yourself: "True feelings are right" and "Not lying is unconditionally cool" are things we hear everywhere these days. But is that really true? This may be fine for a one-time relationship you'll never see again, but for relationships where breaking up would mean losing too much, I think it's worth considering a different strategy. Rather than ignoring your feelings of dislike or discomfort or pretending they never hurt you, incorporate "elegant poison" into your responses. Say what you want to say, but without directly hurting the other person or destroying the relationship. Join us as we learn about this "adult culture" and the "essence of human relationships nurtured in the ancient capital of Kyoto."
