You want to try making wagashi (Japanese sweets) at home, but it seems difficult… or you’ve tried but kept failing… This book lowers the barrier to homemade wagashi and makes it easy to try in your own kitchen. It features 59 recipes that can be made with few steps, minimal ingredients, and common kitchen tools. Each recipe includes a “lazy level” rating to show how effortlessly it can be prepared. From healthy recipes using tofu or oatmeal, to gluten-free treats made with rice flour, and even Western-style sweets!

By Tadahiro Tsuchiya, a wagashi artisan with over 250,000 YouTube subscribers (as of June 2025) and active on various social media platforms, this is his first recipe book.

Author’s Information

Born in Yamagata City. Captivated by the beauty of wagashi, he became a professional wagashi artisan. While continuing his work as a confectioner, he also pursues new expressions of wagashi as a creative innovator. On his YouTube channel, “Wagashi Brother’s Delicious Budget Recipes,” he shares easy and fun recipes that anyone can make at home. He is also the owner of Okashitsukasa Fukura-Suzume Azuki Yado and has received awards such as the Excellent Skills Award from the Japan Confectionery Promotion Association and the Cultural Grand Prize at the All-Japan Wagashi Competition.
