Abstract

Why do people in Okinawa call margarine “butter”?
Why does asking Okinawan people to do something “roughly” often lead to better results?
And why do some Okinawan employees quit their jobs right after getting a raise or promotion?
This book offers the very first clear explanation of the unwritten “Okinawa Rules” —
the cultural codes that no one ever taught you,
but that can make both your business and personal relationships flourish once you understand them.

Author’s Information

President and CEO, Blue Moon Partners Co., Ltd.
Born in Okinawa Prefecture in 1967. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, University of the Ryukyus.
He became Okinawa’s first securities analyst and began his career at Cosmo Securities Economic Research Institute.
In April 1996, he joined Okinawa Kaiho Bank, Ltd., where he later took part in establishing Kaiho Research Institute, Inc., serving as Director and General Manager of Corporate Planning from its founding. He was involved in the company’s management for approximately 11 years.
In January 2015, he became independent and assumed his current position. While conducting field research on Okinawa’s regional economy and industries, he undertakes various research projects commissioned by national and local governments — including studies on tourism, regional resources, and economic ripple effects.
He also serves as a committee member and judge for public support projects and frequently appears in newspapers, television, and radio as a commentator on regional economic and industrial issues.
His book Okinawa Data Sanpo (published by Okinawa Times) became a local hit.
He is a descendant of King Sho Hashi, the founder of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
