Author’s Information

Professor Emeritus at Keio University. Director of the Mutsumi Imai Educational Research Institute

In 1989, she completed his doctoral studies at Keio University Graduate School. In 1994, she earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Psychology at Northwestern University. She served as a professor at Keio University's Faculty of Environment and Information Studies before assuming his current position. She specializes in cognitive science, linguistic psychology, and developmental psychology.

Her major works include "Why Does 'No Matter How Many Times I Explain It, They Just Don't Get It?'" (Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.), "Academic Ability Loss," "Language and Thinking," "What is Learning?", and "How to Self-Study English" (all published by Iwanami Shinsho), and "Unraveling the Mystery of Language Development" (Chikuma Primer Shinsho). Her co-authored works include "The Essence of Language: How Language Was Born and Evolved" (Chuko Shinsho, winner of the 2024 Shinsho Grand Prize), "The Mechanism of Language Memory" (Chikuma Gakugei Bunko), and "Children Who Can't Solve Mathematical Word Problems" (Iwanami Shoten).

She is a Fellow of the International Cognitive Science Society and the Japanese Cognitive Science Society.
