“I am the killer of the serial murders”
The letter was sent to Toru Ippoingi, a reporter of a major newspaper. The writer of the letter calling himself “Vaccine” brings up facts about the serial killings that shook the greater Tokyo district that can be only known by the killer himself, and challenges the reporter to a public debate on the newspaper, “try to convince me from further murders with your words.” Taking on the challenge, Ippongi corresponds with Vaccine on the paper, and while the country breathlessly follows the fierce counter of words and logic between “right” and “wrong”, the paper and Ippongi are caught in a dilemma – are they working as journalists for the better of the society, or more for the record sales the verbal duel is bringing in? Can Ippongi’s words stop Vaccine from further killings, and what is the real aim of the murderer so confident that he will not be caught ? The unimaginable theatrical crime x journalism written in great detail was highly praised and chosen as the runner up for the 27th Tetsuya Ayukawa Award for new mystery writers.
