Abstract

What would you do if your 47-year-old husband suddenly developed aphasia as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage? What exactly is aphasia? What should the family do? How will life change after he is discharged from the hospital? How should they communicate? Can he return to work? This book candidly describes, through manga and text, how a husband and his wife, who watched over him, spent the first two and a half years after the onset of the condition. The husband was able to return to work, and the wife became a speech-language pathologist specializing in aphasia rehabilitation. The text following the manga explains the story from the perspective of both a wife and a professional speech-language pathologist, making it very easy to understand for anyone with a family member with aphasia. The authors deal with aphasia in a positive and cheerful manner, and continue to share their experiences on their blog, "Our Aphasia Boy," and their YouTube channel, "Aphasia Channel." This book is packed with tips on how to help and live with aphasia.
