The story is set in Rome, Italy. Nicoletta, a girl who was left with her grandmother when her mother remarried as a child, has grown up and left the countryside to tell everything to the owner of the restaurant her mother remarried. The restaurant she visits, "Casetta dell'Orso," is a slightly strange place where all the employees are gentlemen with reading glasses. There's the kind waiter Claudio, the nagging Luciano, the cheerful Vito, the chubby-cheeked sommelier Gigi, and the chefs Julio and Theo.
Nicoletta begins working as an apprentice alongside them, and one gentleman in particular begins to catch her eye...
