Abstract

The summer of his first year in high school, Hinata Sanada was haunted every night by the same dream.
In it, he was a kamikaze pilot flying toward an enemy warship, carrying a burden of deep and lingering regret. Somehow, he knew that the young man in the dream was his former self.
One morning during summer remedial classes, his eyes met those of Fuuka Okishita as she watered the sunflowers beside the school building. In that instant, he knew.
She was the reincarnation of the wife he had lost in a previous life.
Expecting a long-awaited and moving reunion, Hinata had scarcely begun to speak before a sharp slap landed across his cheek.
In their former lives, he had gone to war and died without ever telling her the truth. Unable to bear the loss, the wife he left behind soon followed him in death. The anguish and regret of that unfinished farewell had etched itself into their souls, surviving the passage of time and carrying over into the present.
But there was another complication—Fuuka was on the verge of beginning a relationship with someone else.
As long as the memories of their past lives remained, that budding romance risked being torn apart.
Determined to lay their lingering regrets to rest and help Fuuka move forward with the life—and love—that awaited her, the two set out on a journey of trial and error.
Yet what lay ahead was more than either of them expected.
Thus begins a bittersweet summer of second chances and farewell for a husband and wife who once failed to keep a promise, and who must now decide what to carry forward—and what to leave behind.
