Abstract

The beginning of the global transformation into an otaku world. From one person's fantasy to a massive market.

A highly acclaimed masterpiece, considered essential reading for entertainment professionals, has been significantly expanded and revised. It explains the fascinating history and structure of Japan's entertainment industry by genre. All 11 fields are covered: music, movies, television, anime, manga, publishing, theatrical performances, games, sports, toys, and theme parks.

This book is a textbook on the entertainment business, summarizing the epochs in which the entertainment industry was born—in what environment, by whom, and by what means—and how its business model was built.

At the same time, this book is also a textbook for creating a business from scratch. This is because entertainment was created from a market that had never existed. It was born from a pure idea of wanting to make people happy, and it went through an extraordinary process from investors and other supporters who saw its potential, to creators supplying content joining companies, and finally to a state where users regularly pay money.
