Abstract

Cherry, a kid with communication issues that drive him to wear headphones all the time to avoid having people talk to him, is about to experience his seventeenth summer in the regional city he lives in. What he can’t express in speech, he lets fly in the haiku he writes as a hobby. Meanwhile, Smile is a girl who always wears a mask to hide the braces on her buck teeth. A popular streamer, she’s fond of finding cute things, then making videos out of them.
Cherry can’t express himself outside of haiku, and Smile can’t overcome the issues she has with her appearance. But when they run into each other in a shopping mall, they stay in touch via social media—and gradually, the begin to exchange words, just a few at a time.
