Abstract

This book offers an “illustrated” list of 70 key philosophers, from Pythagoras to Michael Sandel, and more than 200 philosophical terms. It also lets readers see at a glance the etymology, sources, specific examples, and antonyms of words.
Pick up this book and learn before reading a difficult book on philosophy.

This book is organized by period, starting with the ancient Greek period with great Sophists such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, and the great Scholastic philosopher Thomas Aquinas during the Middle Ages, to the blooming Renaissance, which saw developments in natural science, and the Early Modern and Modern era with René Descartes, often credited as the father of modern philosophy, J.J. Rousseau, and David Hume. Major philosophers and philosophical terms through the Industrial Revolution and two world wars are listed by period to the present day.

The Visual Dictionary of Philosophy covers some 2,600 years of Western philosophers from ancient times and can be of practical use and enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether readers wish to learn about philosophers or look up their favorite quotes, the illustrations make comprehension easy and intuitive.
With standalone single-page or two-page sections, readers can go at their own pace and follow their interests without necessarily reading from the beginning.
