（Born in Gunma Prefecture in 1960, he joined the Geological Survey of Japan, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in 1982. Joined the Geological Survey of Japan, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1982. Since then, he has been engaged in marine sediment and marine geological surveys, mainly in the seas around Japan. He has been on board research vessels for approximately 1,660 days.
