Abstract

“Ame ni mo makezu”(Rain won't) is one of the most famous poems in the Japanese language. The poem in translated English are designed in the picture on pages, and the original Japanese is aslo shown at the bottom of the pages.
“In creating this book, Koji Yamamura and I attempted to “illustrate the obvious." The paintings provide a living, visual ecosystem that, for Kenji, went without saying. while translating the poem into English, I was moved by how modern it felt, and Ezra Pound's words came to mind:" Literature is news that STAYS news."
〜(from afterword by translator Arthur Binard)
