You don't have to go to the grasslands of Africa or the jungles of the Amazon to observe animals. Take, for example, the feral cats in your neighborhood. I make a cat card naming all the cats in town and describing their characteristics. I can sit back and find out which cat is coming and when, or I can attach a device that emits radio waves to the cats and find out where they are. I will introduce you to my favorite method of observation, which is to sneak off for a day to follow the cats—a fun introduction to animal behavior.
