Abstract

This illustrated book explains from a genetic perspective why tortoiseshell cats are predominantly female and why odd eyes occur. While elucidating the differences in the characteristics of each pattern, the book explains the difficult-to-understand laws of heredity in an easy-to-understand and enjoyable manner. This is a fun "cat pattern illustrated book" that both cat owners and non-cat owners can enjoy.
It is a must-see for anyone who loves cats or is curious about why there are so many variations in cat patterns.

Author’s Information

Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1966. Graduated from Kyushu University, Faculty of Science. Doctor of Science. After working at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University, and the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History and Human History (Inochi no Tabi Museum), he is currently a professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Seinan Gakuin University. He spent seven years conducting fieldwork on Aijima Island in Fukuoka Prefecture, which is known as a cat island, and studying the ecology of cats. His major publications include "Neko no Himitsu" (Secrets of Cats) (Bunshun Shinsho), "Neko wa Sugoi" (Cats are amazing) (Asahi Shinbun Publishing), etc. He has appeared as a cat doctor on several popular NHK programs.
