Author’s Information
Syunmyo Masuno
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture in 1953. He is the abbot of Kenkohji Temple, Tokuozan of the Soto sect, a garden designer, and a professor at Tama Art University. After graduating from university, he trained at Daihonzan Sojiji Temple. He has been creating "Zen gardens" rooted in Zen philosophy and traditional Japanese culture, which have been highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. As a chief priest, he conducts everything from Buddhist memorial services for parishioners to seasonal temple events, teaches university students, and frequently travels abroad.
