Abstract

Rozashi is a traditional Japanese craft, a member of the embroidery family known as counted stitch, which is like cross-stitch. It began as far back as more than 1,300 years ago. In the Heian period (794-1185), it was used as furnishings and costumes for the nobility, and in the Edo period (1603-1868), it was passed down to the court nobles and the ladies of the inner palace. It is a venerable embroidery that has been quietly loved by the upper classes.
The stitching is very simple and the result is very elegant. The basic patterns are so simple that even a child can do them quickly. No difficult techniques are required. You will soon be able to enjoy the taste of the noble ladies.
No specialised tools are needed. All you need is a regular sewing needle and a frame made from cardboard. The only materials needed are gauze and silk thread. For reasonable enjoyment. Small pieces that can be tried easily are introduced here.
Beautiful and unique motifs inspired by the Tenpyo culture, incense bags, netsuke and other traditional Japanese crafts arranged in a modern way are introduced. Chic colour matching is also a key point.
