Abstract

"The Garden of Mixed Trees: Creating a Natural and Comfortable Living Environment" - Summer brings coolness, while winter offers warmth in the natural style of "mixed tree gardens," which are currently receiving a lot of attention. In this book, we introduce various examples of creating mixed tree gardens, essential for a comfortable living environment in the future. We showcase over a dozen examples of mixed tree garden designs tailored to different environments, including small or poorly lit gardens. Actual feedback from people who have created and lived in mixed tree gardens will be useful for readers considering garden design. We also provide easy-to-understand explanations of maintenance methods, requiring only once-a-year care for mixed tree gardens, suitable for beginners. Additionally, we introduce around 30 types of mixed trees and methods for managing their growth while maintaining their usability in personal gardens.

Author’s Information

Hiroomi Takada was born in 1969 in Chiba, Japan. He graduated from the Department of Forestry at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. He is the President of Takada Landscaping Design Office, a landscaping and design firm. He is also the Representative Director of the non-profit organization Earth Protector.

Through his work in landscape design that harnesses the local natural environment, Hiroomi Takada offers proposals for creating nature-rich living environments and urban development, both in Japan and abroad. Particularly after the Great East Japan Earthquake, he has been involved not only in garden design but also in environmental improvement in satoyama (village forests) and remote mountain areas, as well as guiding and educating on environmental regeneration in disaster-stricken areas using traditional techniques. One of his notable publications is "Soil Environment: The Forgotten Perspective of Symbiosis, Revival of Ancient Techniques" (published by Kenchiku Shiryo Kenkyusha).
