Abstract

Rennyo (1415-1499) was the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect in the Muromachi period and rapidly expanded the Honganji denomination. The book clarifies how he lived as religious-intellectual leader and a believer in the turbulent times of the 'Warring States' period and delves into his thoughtfulness while introducing the latest academic research.

Author’s Information

Sasaki Takaaki
Born in 1970. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Soai University, and a lecturer at the Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha Central Buddhist College. He is a disciple of Enkou-ji Temple in Hyogo Prefecture. He completed his doctoral program in Shin Buddhism at Ryukoku University and is a researcher at the Shinshu Honganji School Research Institute. His publications include "Reading Anjin Ketsujoshou" (Daihorinkaku), "Flowers Bloom on the Wild Stones" (co-authored, Nagata Bunshodo), and "Basic Knowledge of Jodo Shinshu" (co-authored, Daihorinkaku).
