Abstract
During the Edo period, who protected Kyoto from its frequent fires?
A large number of valuable documents and painting historical materials are taken up and new interpretations are presented.
We will also provide an overview of changes in the architectural characteristics of machiya houses, fire protection policies from the Edo period to modern times, and Kyoto's unique administrative system.
