Abstract

Pandas in the wild, at risk of extinction, inhabit only a few regions in China, with their number standing at about 1,600. In Japan, there are only three zoos that house pandas. One of them, 'Adventure World' in Wakayama Prefecture, has successfully seen the birth and upbringing of 12 pandas over approximately 20 years. How did they achieve such remarkable breeding success that amazed the world? Interviews with key people involved provide insights, unraveling the history and mysteries of the panda.
