Abstract

A woman's essay by an active obstetrician-gynecologist who turned 91 this year (2021). She says, "I was almost blocked again and again by the fact that I am a woman, but if there is no precedent, I will pioneer it. My life has been a series of such experiences.

　Based on her knowledge as a doctor and her experience as a woman, she has been working with women for over 60 years, helping them with problems specific to puberty, menstruation-related issues, work and family matters, anxiety about pregnancy and childbirth, struggles related to child rearing, and even suffering during menopause.
　Because she became a doctor at a time when there were still few female doctors, she has treated her patients with the belief that this was her role as an obstetrician-gynecologist.
　She was also a pioneer of working women and working mothers.

　As an obstetrician/gynecologist and as a senior working woman and working mother, this book is a compilation of what she would like to share with women today who are suffering from physical and mental problems.

Masako Horiguchi
Obstetrician and gynecologist, born in Tokyo in 1930. The war ended when she was 15 years old while a student at Toyo-Eiwa High School for Girls.
She entered the women's department of the Tokyo College of Pharmacy, became a pharmacist, and began research on hormones at the University of Tokyo. While conducting biological research on the differences between women and men, she decided that she wanted to become a doctor, and entered the Faculty of Medicine at Gunma University. After graduation, she became the first woman to join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tokyo School of Medicine. She worked at Toranomon Hospital, Women's Adult Disease Clinic, and other hospitals. Her husband, Sadao, is also an obstetrician/gynecologist and former director of Aiiku Hospital.
