Abstract

Enjoying the scenery and flowers of the four seasons, participating in a community of immigrants, enjoying local food to the fullest, being at the mercy of unexpected troubles such as fighting insects and malfunctioning septic tanks, and working online. Thinking about medical and nursing care resources as a "final home"... Chizuko Ueno's version of 24 stories of ``Life in the Forest'' tells stories that never appear in magazines promoting mountain living. My current theme is "Until the end in my beloved Hokuto." Of course, ``even if you are alone'' is added to that. ---From the text

Author’s Information

Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1948. Sociologist, professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo, and chairperson of the certified NPO Women's Action Network (WAN). A leading expert on women's and gender studies. While studying at Kyoto University, she belonged to the Wundervogel club. About 20 years ago, she built a house at the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake in Yamanashi Prefecture, and currently lives between Tokyo and Yamanashi. Her major publications include ``The Establishment and End of the Modern Family'' (Iwanami Shoten), ``In Retirement for Alone'' (Bungei Shunju), and ``Staying Home Alone in a Good Mood Until the End'' (Chuokoron-Shinsha). This is the first collection of essays about daily life.
