Abstract

We, the 4th graders of Nijikawa Elementary, were set to participate in an exchange program at Kurinoki Special Support School. But what kind of school is a special support school, and what kind of kids attend there? Initially, we felt awkward interacting with students with intellectual disabilities, but gradually, we began to understand their individual challenges and personalities. This book depicts the emotional journey of building friendships beyond labels of 'disabled' and 'able-bodied.'
