◆(Original) 1823-1915 French entomologist. Born into a poor farming family in the south of France. Since childhood, he has been fascinated by animals, plants, and insects. He entered the Normal School in Avignon, where he continued to study the ecology of insects while teaching. The 10 volumes of Insect Records, a collection of insect research, are loved all over the world and have been passed down through generations. He is also active as a composer and is known as a poet who helped revive Provencal literature. /◆ (text) 1907-1988 Born in Tokyo. Graduated from the Faculty of Science, University of Tokyo. Doctor of Science. After serving as a professor at Nihon University School of Medicine and a senior researcher at the National Institute of Education, he became a professor at Tokyo Gakugei University and was appointed professor emeritus at the same university. He has written many books, including ``The Marriage of Ants'' (Hosei University Press) and ``Favre Insects for Boys and Girls, Vol. 6'' (Kaiseisha). /◆(Illustration) 1911-2009 Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. painter. He is active as a picture book artist who depicts insects and plants with a rich sense of life. He has been called "Japan's Petit Fabre" for his many realistic works based on thorough observation of nature, and has received high acclaim worldwide. His books include ``New Edition: Words of Chikamori Kumada: I Am an Insect'' (Kyuryudo), and picture books include ``Favre's Insects: Insects'' (all 5 volumes/Shogakukan).
