Abstract

This is the first novel written by the author, born in 1978, who has been active as a critic of contemporary Japanese subcultures. The main character, a well-read high school student living in a provincial city, feels a sense of stagnation in that city. Most of the city's serious, academically capable people become government officials or teachers, and he despises these adults as hopelessly boring people whose lives are worn out by jobs that don't require imagination. Still, he enjoyed his days in his own way, taking over a nearly defunct photography club with a group of like-minded friends, and befriending a female teacher because of their mutual love of books. However, his peaceful life begins to be disrupted after the mysterious death of a female teacher he was close to. Through his adventures with a beautiful transfer student who newly joined the photography club and the eccentric photography club advisor, he arrives at the shocking truth surrounding this world. This world was under attack by invaders from a different world. To protect mankind from them, Team Alternative, made up of people with a certain power, takes up the fight. A coming-of-age adventure mystery that pays homage to Japanese SFX movies.
