Abstract
The first book in the DEAF VOICE series which was made into a NHK TV drama , and is now being made into a film and TV series in Korea - now available from Tokyo Sogensha. Four books and two spin-offs currently available in the series.
Naoto Arai, a former clerical employee of the Saitama Prefectural Police, is unable to find new employment and spends his days working as a late-night security guard. Growing up as CODA (Children of Deaf Adults) and having worked as an interpreter for his deaf family members since childhood, Arai was compelled to become a certified sign language interpreter as the only available job. As his work increases, he is torn between the societies of the Deaf and the hearing, he is asked to be a court interpreter for a Deaf person who is charged with attempted theft.
The Deaf Voice series is currently four titles and two spin-offs.
Author’s Information
Born in Tokyo in 1961. Graduated from Waseda University. After working as a scenario writer, Maruyama made his debut with "Deaf Voice," which won the Seicho Matsumoto Award. In 2021, "Wonderful Life" was selected as the Yomiuri Meter of the Year 2021. In 2022, the second title in the Deaf Voice series, "Dragon's Ear for You" won the 17th Sake-drinking Bookseller's Award. His other books include "Drifting Child," "Welcome Home!" "The Kids Are All Right".
