Abstract

Many tales and legends have been passed down about raccoon dogs, foxes, wolves, cats, and other monsters. Cats, in particular, are rich in stories, and are the animal with the most monster legends. There are many gory stories about monster cats, but no matter how gruesome the stories are, they are never just scary. This is because we have long worshiped cats as noble animals that connect to another world. This book is full of monster cats, making the mysterious animal of cats feel closer to you through the images of monster cats. The content is a monster cat mandala-like development that cat-loving readers cannot miss. This book is a collection of various images from a wide range of genres, including popular ukiyo-e from the Edo period, toy pictures, kusazoshi, monster cat movies, and monster cat manga from the Meiji period.

Born in Maebashi City in 1955. Graduated from Nihon University College of Art. Editor and editorial designer. Edits academic books and weekly magazines, mainly on history, as well as hobby books on travel, fishing, cats, and trains, and has also edited many books on Japanese swords.
