Abstract
The year after the Tokyo Olympics concluded without incident in 2020, Japan and Russia held a peace festival to decide the ownership of the border by thumb wrestling. Now, eight years later, another peace festival will be held between South Korea and Japan. The athlete selected to represent South Korea is Park Kwang-woong, a Korean resident of Japan who moved to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a child and later defected from North Korea. The athlete selected to represent Japan is Yoshida Yunis, a single mother born in Japan whose parents are refugees from Central Africa. What did these two refugee and immigrant families, at the mercy of their nations, see beyond the rough seas?
