Author’s Information

Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1979. While he was a college dropout, his mother suddenly died, and he entered the world of food at the age of 18. He trained in the art of sushi and became an independent sushi chef at the age of 24. In 2008, he opened a sushi restaurant called "Sumeshiya" in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, which was by invitation only and by reservation only (now closed). He aims his camera at fish to convey their characteristics to customers. He posts clear photos on his blog showing the eyes, inside of the mouth, scales, fins, and the different colors of each part of the fish. He doesn't just photograph fish on the chopping board, he also scuba dives to observe where fish live in the sea and what they eat. He also holds a camera underwater. He also participates in various activities, such as showing children how to fillet and prepare fish at kindergartens and elementary schools, and sushi workshops at high schools. His life's work is to travel to various parts of Japan to learn about local sushi.
