Abstract
Japanese Modern and Contemporary Literature as Told by an Italian Voice
“Cutting into the lives of tough female writers who colored Japan’s modern and contemporary literature!”
“‘Hypersensitivity,’ ‘low-income single women,’ ‘the parent lottery’… The very issues facing women today were also struggles for female writers of the modern era! The lives and words of ten women writers pierce straight into our hearts.”
Following “Heian Women Were All Desperately in Love (2020),” which introduced female writers of the Heian period from a fresh perspective and resonated with many readers, this new volume turns to modern and contemporary women writers. With interpretations as bold as its predecessor, it links the lives of these women to keywords that echo today’s concerns—such as “low income” and “parent lottery.” It presents the vivid individuality and messages of women who survived within constraints, offering new insights into their enduring power.
