Following “Heian Women Were All Desperately in Love (2020),” which introduced female writers of the Heian period from a fresh perspective and resonated with many readers, this new volume turns to modern and contemporary women writers. With interpretations as bold as its predecessor, it links the lives of these women to keywords that echo today’s concerns—such as “low income” and “parent lottery.” It presents the vivid individuality and messages of women who survived within constraints, offering new insights into their enduring power.

Author’s Information

Born in Italy in 1980. Studied Japanese at the University of Venice and came to Japan in 2005. After completing a Master’s degree in Comparative Social and Cultural Studies (Japanese Language and Literature course) at Ochanomizu University, she has been active in Japan as a translator and translation project manager. Since April 2021, she has appeared regularly as a guest on the NHK radio program Isabella’s Stroll Through the Classics. Her publications include “Heian Women Were All Desperately in Love” (Tankosha) and “The Great Writers Who Couldn’t Write Women” (KADOKAWA).
