Graduated from Akita University School of Medicine in 1987. Served as lecturer and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the same university, visiting associate professor at the Sleep Research Center, Stanford University School of Medicine, and director of the Sleep and Wake Disorders Research Department at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, before assuming his current position in 2018. Director of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research. Author of numerous books, including "Why Morning-Oriented Work is Bad" (Nikkei National Geographic) and "Sharper Than Ever! The Most Powerful Habits for Sleep and Wakefulness" (Seishun Publishing).

Freelance writer. Born in 1967. Graduated from the Faculty of Law at Niigata University. After working at an editorial production company, he went independent in 1993. He writes for Nikkei Gooday, Nikkei Plus 1, Kosho Kojitsu, and other publications, focusing on the fields of medicine, health, manga, and literature. His books include "Men Should Anti-Aging" (Nikkei BP), "If You Want to Relieve Your Fatigue, Stop Sleeping on the Train Home" (co-authored with Nikkei BP), and "How Has Weekly Shonen Magazine Built the History of Manga? 1959-2009" (Seikaisha Shinsho).
