Author’s Information
He joined the Nikkei Inc. in 1998. After working in the Political, Economic, and International Affairs departments, he has served as Moscow bureau chief and Vienna bureau chief. He has conducted on-site reporting in over 40 countries around the world, building a wide network of contacts with political and business leaders, military personnel, and cultural figures. He currently serves as an editorial committee member and editorial writer. During his university years, he conducted on-site research on the Bosnian civil war. He reported on the reality of the war from the ground in Ukraine, where Russia was invading, and in November 2025, the Russian government designated the country as a target for sanctions, banning entry into the country. He is an avid cat lover and learned to swim in his 40s. His book, "Geopolitics for 13-Year-Olds: Globe Voyage with Kaizoku" (Toyo Keizai Inc.), has sold over 260,000 copies and won the Liberal Arts category award at the 2023 Readers' Choice Business Book Grand Prix.
