Abstract
It is well known that Kuma’s works are notable for the ingenious forms he creates from wood.
However, he is also particular about the way in which natural light enters his buildings throughout the
day and how lighting is used at night. He is therefore a “master of light” as well as a “master of wood.
In this project, Takahashi has photographed Kengo Kuma’s works under the theme of “Kengo
Kuma’s World of Light and Form.” Not only has he captured overall views of the buildings and their
distinctive features, but also the way each building blends into its natural surroundings and the
beautiful lighting of each site. For this reason, many of the photographs were taken at night, and the
contents of this photo collection are distinctly different from ordinary architecture photo collections
Author’s Information
A vocational school graduate, Takahashi was initially employed at a photography studio. At the age of
23, photogravure work that he had published in a camera magazine was highly praised by Jun Miki, a
Japanese pioneer in the field of photojournalism. This prompted him to start a freelance career and
aspire to become a photographer.
As a photographer of water and light landscapes, he has published his works in various media under the themes of “healing water
scenes” and “beautiful light scenes.”
