Abstract

Thinking there is a need to replace the words “I want to die”, the author Kyohei Sakaguchi put his mobile phone number 090-8106-4666 out to the public in 2012 as “Inochi-no-denwa” (lifeline / suicide hotline) and, even now, is still taking calls from over 10,000 people a year who tell him, “I want to die.” This book is the words the author posted on Twitter and continues to write even today after hearing from those who want to die. It is a collection of his most choice words carefully selected from his series of activities to find words to replace "I want to die".

Despite having bipolar disorder, author Kyohei Sakaguchi has garnered attention for his genre-transcending expressive activities as an author, a painter and a musician. However, he seems to have won more acclaim outside of his home country of Japan, with his activities highly praised by Western and global standards.
While this book is indeed “Yomigusuri” (the healing power of words) for those struggling with the “difficulty of life”, it also serves as a collection of hints for how to live in these ever more disturbing times while preserving your own “honesty”.
