Abstract
80-year-old textile designer's work and lifestyle
There is an 80-year-old textile designer who continues to create in Kyoto, cherishing the rhythm of daily life.
Katsuji Wakisaka moved to Finland in 1968 and became the first Japanese designer to work for Marimekko.
Wakisaka says:
"If the repetitive rhythm of each day is comfortable, then life will also be comfortable."
Place, time, family.
Although things have changed, Wakisaka always has his sights set on "daily life," and he says that Japanese people are good at finding beauty in everyday life.
What kind of person is Wakisaka, who draws shirts, pencils, chairs and flowers with gentle lines?
This book is a collection of illustrations and texts that includes a wealth of Marimekko works from about 50 years ago, paintings, ceramics, and current SOU・SOU textiles.
In recent years, she has been taking on new challenges, such as collaborating with Studio Ghibli and Hello Kitty, but she continues to create with excitement, cherishing the rhythm of her daily life.
Having spent time in Finland and New York before returning to Kyoto at the age of 60, he has continued to pursue one thing for a long time. What did he see, how did he act, and what did he value? What does he think now, at the age of 80?
Wakisaka's words are full of hints on how to live life, and will make you realize the beauty of the Japanese people.
